Nurtured heart Approach & School REFUSAL

School refusal can be deeply emotional and overwhelming for students, families, and educators alike.

  • The Nurtured Heart Approach® is a relationship-focused methodology designed to help children and individuals build inner wealth, confidence, and self-regulation. Built around the “3 Stands,” the approach teaches adults to:

    1. Refuse to energize negativity,

    2. Purposefully energize success and positive choices, and

    3. Establish and maintain clear, consistent boundaries without shame or punishment.

  • Using the principles of the Nurtured Heart Approach®, (The 3 Stands, NHA Recognitions), supports both homes and schools in shifting away from power struggles, anxiety-driven reactions, and constant focus on problems.

  • Unlike many of the traditional or conventional methods, NHA® helps adults intentionally recognize and energize student strengths, create clear and consistent boundaries without shame, and build emotional safety through connection and encouragement. In school settings, teachers and support staff gain practical tools to reduce conflict, strengthen relationships, increase student engagement, and respond to challenging behaviors in ways that build resilience, confidence, and success for students struggling with school refusal.
